The Snow Lions is a team of Singaporean sculptors and artists created by Edmund Chan, to represent Singapore in international snow and ice art event

Making Ice kachang

Many commented and asked:

Oh, is that a Merlion?
Can you guys do Orchid? MBS? F1? Esplanade?

What else can you guys sculpt?
What tools you guys use?
How long does it take?
How big is the sculpture?
Is it cold? Are you freezing there?
How strong is the snow sculpture?
What happened to the sculpture after the event?
Is it same as ice sculpture?
How about doing a big, big ice kachang?.. etc

We sure love a big ice kachang (a shaved/crushed ice dessert well known in Singapore and Southeast Asia).

It is like building a snowman.
Except that we carve the snowman from a snow block that is 3 meter in height, width, and depth. We are not allowed to use any electronic tools/machines, so we sculpt the block using traditional tools such as handmade chisels, barbed wires, and ice saws.

For 4 days straight we will have to work tirelessly from 9 am to 9 pm. Usually, we do not feel that cold when we are working, and even perspire. But often the temperature at night can be intensely cold.

Working 'tirelessly'

After the event, the sculpture will be demolished for safety reasons. So... come over to Hokkaido for a holiday and visit the Sapporo Snow Festival and see the sculptures for yourself!

More next time!
